Goal: For students to actively pursue knowledge and understanding about early European Explorers and identify reasons for exploration, explorers from different countries, and the positive and negative effects of exploration in our world.

Activities: Learning reasons for exploration, learning about the Vikings, playing Life on a Boat board game, create a day in the life as an explorer writing piece, examine routes of the major explorers from Europe, study cause and effect charts, and timelines.
We will become familiar with explorers such as: Erik the Red, Hudson, Cartier, Magellan, Marco Polo, Columbus, Drake, Cook, Champlain, Franklin.
We will look into French, English, Portuguese, and Spanish explorers, and also the explorers looking for the Northwest Passage.
